Newbie Guide

You just got a team in Trophymanager and want to start managing your club right away, that's obvious. But how to start? You don't want to make any mistakes and therefor the manager of VV Kerkrade Centrum has put together a newbie guide that will tell you step by step what to do.

Step by Step

1. The first thing you should do is read the official Trophymanager guide, here you can find everything you need to know about the game. This way you can get familiar with the game and the information in there will help you getting your FITA Licence.

You can find the TM Guide here, once you've read it a quick first time you can take the FITA Licence test right away, click here to start. When you pass the test you get a Licence in your clubhouse and a nice sum of money..
___________________________________________________________

2. Of course we're not going to spend that money right away! The best long term investments are the trainingground and youth academy, you can start with expanding both in the 'Stadium' screen ('Facilities')
For now your stadium size is probably big enough, the ideal amount of seats is 2,5 times your number of fans (you can find them in your clubhouse, click 'show'). More information about your facilities maintenance costs can be found in the 'Information' section, there's also information about wich facilities you should upgrade and wich not.

3. Now that you are a licenced manager we can take a look at your squad. For now it's best to create a common used 4-4-2 formation until you have a better view on what players you need in certain formations and positions. Check your squad and try to find the best eleven considering the skills they need in each position:

GK: Reflexes and Handling.

DL & DR: Marking and Tackling, and some Heading and Pace as well.

DC: Marking, Tackling and Heading, and some Pace and Strength as well.

ML & MR: Positioning, Workrate, Passing, Technique and Crossing, and some Pace as well.

MC: Positioning, Workrate, Passing and Technique and some Marking and Tackling if you want to decrease the pressure on your defence.

FC: Finishing, Longshots and Heading, some Strenght and Pace and then they could also use Positioning and Technique.

As tactic, or attacking style we best start with 'Balanced', later on your can experiment with other tactics. Note that every formation already has a certain amount of 'offensive' and that each level above 'Balanced' adds 0.5, and of course the same goes for each level below it. To check your line up once you have chosen your first eleven you can use an assisting tool like TrophyMaster or TrExMa, you can find both (and more info about them) in the 'Tools' section of this website.

4. Now that you know what players you need you also know what players you don't need. From the remaining players you pick another 2 for each of the following parts of your team: Defense, Midfield, Wing (ML/MR) and Attack, and one GK as reserve. You now used a total of 20 players, all other players can be sold instantly, make sure you try to sell them for the maximum starting price you can choose. When they don't sell you can always try again with a lower starting price. With the income from these sales you can invest in facilities (see point 2 and 6 of this guide), buying players is something we do later on.

5. Your players should be trained, obviously, and to do so you need to hire coaches and put your players in trainingprogrammes. How good or hard a player trains depends on hidden skills like potential and talent, and it shows in TI (Training Intensity). Each week your players train at a certain TI and each TI point is 0,1 skillpoint, meaning that a player with TI 10 will increase one skillpoint that week. You can increase TI by upgrading your traininggrounds and hiring better coaches.

On the trainingpage you can divide your player in a maximum of 6 groups with their own trainingprogramme, for each group you will need a different trainer depending on the sort of training that is given in a specific group. One group is always dedicated to keeper training and can not be changed. It's best to start with 5 groups, select the training sorts just like in the table below and then put the right players in each group:

Trainings (and coach skills needed!) Player Type
GK (automatically) Keepers
Defense, Heading, Physique Defenders
Technique, Physique, Defense Midfield Players
Wing, Technique, Attack Wingers
Attack, Heading, Technique Attackers

If you're not sure to wich group a player belongs you can use TrophyMaster or TrExMa to check at what position he's best.

Now you just need coaches, you can hire them here and you search for the skills that a coach needs to train a particular group. Always search for +15 skills! If you need a trainer for your attacker group you search for Attack, Heading and Technique at +15, then from all candidates (the search may take a couple of days) you pick the one with the highest (needed) skills. Also make sure your coach has enough motivation as this will incease efficiency as well. Now put each coach in the right group and you'll see the efficiency of the groups increase. Try to get them at 80% at least, 90% is perfect. Now you're ready for you first training, you'll see the results every tuesday.

6. To train your players even better you can upgrade the traininggrounds, each level will increase the TI of your players with 3,5%. On this page you not only find the traininggrounds but also another important facility in TM: The youth academy! When you start playing TM you should upgrade to level 5 as soon as possible, then you need to upgrade up to level 8 as long as your weekly finances show profit. It's best to not upgrade both facilities (any actually) above level 8.

Your youth academy will offer you a new youthplayer each saturday, with a very small chance of getting two. You can get the weekly report here, with level 5 you'll get 2 players every week and with level 8 you will get 3 every saturday. Don't offer a contract to youthplayers below rate/potential 8, and always try to scout them with your clubscout as he will give a better scoutreport. You can hire scouts where you hired your coaches and you need to search for DEV and YTH on +15. Once you scouted your youthplayers you can fire the ones below potential 10, they will never be good enough for your first team and you won't make any profit trying to sell them later on. You can find a table that predicts the eventual ASI of a player when he's done training for each level of potential in the information section, read more about the development of players in the TM official guide. ___________________________________________________________

7. Now that you know your way around in the club, it's facilities and players it's time to judge if your team needs new players, to replace your weakest player in the line up. In TM your team is no stronger than your weakest link! So if you have some spare money you can choose to improve your first eleven, or invest in a talented youth for the future. If you decide to look for a talented youth you need to scout transferlisted players and search for players that have not bloomed yet with potential somewhere between 14 and 17.

If you decide to buy a player to improve the first eleven then you first need to check who your weakest player is. You can use TrExMa or TrophyMaster to see who has the lowest value on his position, then lookup wich skills are important on that position (use point 3 of this guide) and finally go to the transfer page in TM. Now you can select the skills you need, set a minimum (try 12 or 13 to start with), select the desired FP and your country if you like (you can only use 5 foreigners!). Try looking for players above 28 because younger players are too expensive, if your search doesn't get you enough or too expensive candidates then lower the minimum skills.

When you have found one or more players that you want you can shortlist them and when the deadline approaches you can start bidding. Don't bid to early as it won't secure you the player but only increase the price.
